ESPÉRER Skin Care : Anti-Aging Night Repair Serum & Anti-Pollution Night Repair Serum

serum.jpg

Here at The Amazing Blog, you may have noticed that we’ve been featuring a few different serums this month, as for us, there’s nothing better than using the clean, natural and botanically based ones. We believe that simplicity is best, which is why we were very happy to discover two night serums from the new luxury botanical brand ESPÉRER Skin Care who offer just that.

ESPÉRER Skin Care was launched in December 2019 by Dina El Adlani. As is a psychologist with an MSc in psychoanalytical psychology, she also studied and researched the anatomy and physiology of the skin. This was when she became aware that many skin issues are often related to overall lack of self-esteem, confidence and even mental well-being. Dina commented, “My background in psychology and dermatology helped me create ESPÉRER Skin Care, and the ingredients that I have chosen are not only beneficial to the skin but have been proven to improve overall well-being, reducing anxiety, bringing forth a feeling of calmness and positivity.” She discovered various natural ingredients when travelling to her country of origin, Morocco, and from there also got her inspiration for the brand name of ESPÉRER which means ‘hope’ in French. For Dina, this means hope for better skin, hope for better well-being, and hope for a better future.  After discovering, from personal experience, the devastating damage that chemical-based skincare can cause, she only wanted to use entirely natural ingredients in her skincare. Therefore, the ingredients ESPÉRER uses are 100% natural, cruelty-free, vegan and free from any preservatives, synthetic fragrances, alcohols and chemical toxins.

We were also interested to learn that Dina together with some of her associates, have created the Dahlia Mental Health Foundation. It is a charitable foundation in the process of being registered here in the UK. She told us that a large part of this Foundation is built around mental health, as well as skin health, as they believe the two go hand in hand. Once the charity has been set up, they will be open to the public to take donations. In the meantime, for every ESPÉRER product sold, £1 goes towards this Foundation. They aim to build psychological/mental health and well-being centres in developing countries. Places that have experienced war and famine receive food and water supplies, but they do not have access to mental health support, which they believe is just as important. What an amazing charity!

The first product we tried was the Anti-Aging Night Repair Serum  which is part of the collection ‘Beauté de la Nuit’. This oil serum is made with ONLY two natural ingredients: The argan oil and rose absolute, both of which are sourced from the southern region of Morocco. Argan oil contains vitamin E with the fatty acids omega 3 and 6, which provide the main moisturising properties. This is where the oil molecules are so tiny that they can penetrate the deeper layers of the epidermis, improving moisture levels and reducing signs of ageing. Argan also has numerous benefits for acne and damaged skin, and reduces fine lines, irritated skin, and lessens age spots. The rose absolute is extracted from rosa damascene blossoms, a rose only native to Morocco, and has anti-ageing and rejuvenating qualities as well as being anti-inflammatory, detoxifying, and hydrating. We loved using this rich amber coloured oil serum. The fragrance is intense with the soft, sweet floral rose absolute which is so uplifting, and with thicker viscoscity of the argan oil, it only needs two or three drops to massage into the face and the neck. When applying ESPÉRER Skin Care very sensibly advises waiting 30 minutes prior to bed, for this Serum to absorb into the skin (rather than the pillow!) We found that it left our skin looking plumped up and glowy by the morning. You can purchase the 30ml Anti-Aging Night Repair Serum here for £33.

Also part of the ‘Beauté de la Nuit’ collection, but offering different benefits, is the Anti-Pollution Night Repair Serum. Again, this too has only two ingredients: French lavender and almond oil. This oil Serum has detoxifying and calming properties. Lavender is known for its antimicrobial properties, preventing bacteria from growing on the skin as well as for its detoxifying and anti-pollution effects. Not only that, lavender offers a calming effect on the nervous system. The almond oil, is rich in vitamin A and works as a powerful antioxidant, protecting and repairing skin cells. When these two ingredients are combinedthey moisturise, repair and protect with the added benefit of an antibacterial effects from the lavender oil. This Night Serum is designed to calm and repair, offering skin protection from daily pollution. We found that with the almond oil as a base, it was lighter in texture than the Anti-Ageing Repair.  The lavender fragrance was also less intense than that of the rose absolute, and this time, we found that we needed more like four of five drops to massage into the face and neck. With lavender oil often hailed as a hero botanical, we understand its presence here in this Serum, where it works as a healer and antioxidant fighting free radical damage and pollution. When using this Anti-Pollution Night Repair Serum, it certainly did help to calm and balanced skin as well reducing any redness and blotchy patches. You can purchase the Anti-Pollution Night Repair Serum here for £27.

It was hard to chose a favourite between these two ESPÉRER Skin Care Serums. However, if pushed, we’d have to say the Anti-Ageing Night Repair, but only because rose absolute is, one of our very favourite essential oils to use.

Nume-Lab: Resurfacing Night Peel Serum

Nume Lab.jpg

Today, at The Amazing Blog, we’re back with Nume-Lab, a new Swiss biotech skincare brand, which offers at-home professional style skincare. This time, it's with their Resurfacing Night Peel Serum, which is a cell-regenerating serum that helps to exfoliate away dead skin cells, and offer smoother skin. You may remember we recently reviewed their two other products, Deep Exfoliating Cleanser and Advanced Renewal Face Cream here.

The idea of Nume-Lab  is a Swiss brand that started three years ago, when Paulina Kostrzycka and her co-founder, realised most of their expensive skincare products were gathering dust. They noticed that these multiple products with their ingredients had been overlapping in use and potency. That was when they decided to create a skincare brand that offered products that are highly effective, with a conscious and ethical approach for long-lasting results. This is where they have designed a line of clean, sustainable, and affordable skincare products that not only promote environmentally friendly products, packaging and business practices but also empower people, especially women. Kostrzycka said: “Giving freedom of choice to women and men who follow different lifestyles and have different needs was important to me. Nume-Lab goes beyond skincare. It is a bridge between different cultures and a promotion of diversity.” After years of hard work, in 2020, they finally launched Nume-Lab in Switzerland. The brand is  Halal certified, where all products have the highest ethical manufacturing process required, including being cruelty-free with no animal testing and using sustainably sourced ingredients. This meant banning alcohol, other toxic chemicals and mineral oils from formulas. There are a trio products, designed to work together which are aimed at the age-defying market with the Resurfacing Night Peel, Deep Exfoliating Cleanser, Advanced Renewal Face Cream and Resurfacing Night Peel Serum. Recently the brand has committed to donating 10% of its profits to support the Pediatric Burn Center at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center across the USA and Canada.

The Resurfacing Night Peel Serum, is an anti-ageing exfoliating serum for all skin types. The key ingredient that the brand uses is snail mucus. The mucus production is highly regulated and conforms to the cruelty-free standards set by the Halal certification. The snails are kept in good conditions and are put in a bumpy environment that helps them produce the filtrate. As an ingredient that Korean brands have used for centuries, it swiftly regenerates, protects and nourishes the skin effectively, it’s naturally rich in glycolic acid, hyaluronic acid, peptides and antioxidants. It was also used in ancient times to cure wounds, burns, inflammation and other skin issues. This Regenerating Night Serum promises to reduce blemishes, fine lines, and other impurities like blackheads by exfoliating and stimulating regeneration.  Here we have a high concentration of AHAs, snail mucin extract, niacinamide (B3), pantheon (B5), tocopherol (vitamin E) and betaine, a mighty amino acid and humectant that helps the skin stay hydrated, plump, and youthful. These come together to help refine skin texture and allow the Advanced Renewal Face Cream to penetrate faster. The presence of shea butter and aloe vera together with the snail mucus are here to hydrate and soothe. In contrast, the apricot kernel and walnut shell powders give gentle and natural exfoliation. This formula’s primary function is to stimulate cell regeneration by deeply exfoliating old and dead cells from the upper layers of the skin. The Night Serum is a clear viscous fluid and neutral and fragrance-free - they describe this as an ‘at home peel’. Despite the high concentration of AHA’s here, we found this surprisingly gentle. We applied as directed, keeping away from eyes and lips, and only using once or twice a week over a period of 2 months. This we massaged (in order to lift and sweep away dead skin cells), and left on our skin for 10-15 minutes, then wiped away with a warm damp washcloth. Used in conjunction with the two other Nume-Lab products, we can happily report back that we definitely noticed a reduction in pigmentation, less blemishes and a brighter skin texture. However, a few words of caution, if you have sensitive skin, do a patch test - as due to AHA’s it can leave skin red and tingly. Also, when using this Resurfacing Night Peel Serum, it is advisable to use an SPF 50+ during the day, as it will make skin super-sensitive to sunlight. As we all know, using any AHAs can cause the skin to burn when exposed to UV light up to 24 hours after the last application. To purchase Nume-Lab's Resurfacing Night Peel Serum in 30ml for CHF 79, see here.

GLOWWA™ - Hair Food

Glowwa.jpg

We can’t believe how long our hair is with #lockdown and no hairdresser appointments! They say that hair is a woman’s crowning glory, and some of us here at The Amazing Blog have noticed a growth spurt of at least 4” in the past few months. The upside, is all the different hairstyles to play with ponytails, French braids, updos, curls etc. The downside, is it urgently needs cutting and colouring. However, something we do realise is that we need to give it some TLC and maintenance, ideally feeding the roots to keep it strong and healthy.  This is where the Hair Food a supplement from GLOWWA™ comes in with its unique vegan-based vitamins for promoting healthy hair growth.

GLOWWA™  recently launched as a brand specialising in hair and beauty supplements to help women feel their best. As mentioned GLOWWA is 100% vegan, they are also passionate about being a clean, cruelty-free and plastic-free brand working towards a plastic-free planet. Plus, there is no gluten, dairy, wheat, sugar or artificial flavourings/colourings to be found in any of their capsules. As they say, healthy hair starts from the inside out, together with food, lifestyle and stress which all contribute to the rate of growth and quality of the hair. With the recent Editor’s Choice win in the 2021 The Beauty Shortlist Awards, the Hair Food is fast gaining well-deserved recognition. With every order placed, GLOWWA commits to planting a tree in an area that need support in mitigating climate change, or damaged ecosystems. We like how they want to make a difference.

We were kindly sent a month’s supply with the 60 Capsule Hair Food  which provides daily nutritional support for thicker, healthier hair, adding improved conditioning, and shine. This supplement contains no GMO’s or bulking agents. Instead, they have high strength biotin, vitamins C and B3, B5, B6,B12; MSM and zinc citrate. The main ingredient here is biotin, also known as vitamin H, which plays an essential role in growing our hair, skin, and nails. Vitamins B5, B6 and B12 help strengthen and condition the hair. Zinc citrate plays a vital role in hair growth and repair to help us avoid hair loss! Most importantly, MSM is a sulphur-rich compound with anti-inflammatory properties which influences hair growth and retention. GLOWWA™ recommends taking two capsules daily for a minimum of 90 days for best results. We tried GLOWWA™ hair food for a month, we did notice a slight difference with nail strength and some new downy hair that appeared on our hairline. However, we’d recommend trying the full 90-day course here, as this needs to be continued on for the 90 day period to see more evident results. GLOWWA™ hair food is delivered in a stylish recyclable blush pink cylindrical container. It can be purchased, click here for £34.99 for 60 capsules or a 12 week course at £94.99 click here.

MAYSAMA: Green Rooibos Pressed Serum

Maysama.jpg

The more unusual an ingredient, the more it piques our interest! Although we are familiar with green tea in skincare, green rooibos is certainly a first for us to review at The Amazing Blog.  We are featuring the hero product from MAYSAMA with their unique Green Rooibos Pressed Serum  which we couldn’t resist giving a try.

MAYSAMA was founded in 2018 by Beverly Sanderson. The brand is based in South Africa and produces ethical, natural, vegan and high-performance antioxidant green rooibos skincare. For years, Beverly struggled with skincare issues, including rosacea, vitiligo and photosensitivity. Desperate to improve her skin, Beverly went to a dermatologist who guided her to eat organic foods and use natural skincare products. Her interest in healthy skincare grew, which led her to discover and cultivate a passion for green rooibos tea. She began working with the Nelson Mandela Institute in South Africa to look at rooibos' cosmetic potential. The anti-inflammatory properties of rooibos improved Beverly's rosacea, which led her onto launch MAYSAMA with the brand philosophy of 'If something is worth doing, it is worth doing well'. Her launch product is the Green Rooibos Pressed Serum with the starring ingredient of green rooibos which comes from unfermented leaves that have a much higher antioxidant capacity than red rooibos because the flavonoids have not been destroyed by oxidation. Uniquely, rooibos protects and repairs the predominant cells in fat tissue, responsible for maintaining skin fullness, and its rich source of alpha-hydroxy acid and zinc fights off premature ageing. MAYSAMA's pharmaceutical-grade green rooibos has a patented extraction process that significantly enhances the aspalathin content and the main flavonoid responsible for its antioxidant activity, creating a superior cosmetic ingredient. We applaud the brand for its giving back to the rooibos community in South Africa through the Environmental Monitoring Group (EMG) in Cape Town. It is a climate change adaptation work programme that works with rooibos farming communities to develop a sustainable harvesting strategy and gain more insight into the plant's ecology and its response to climate change. MAYSAMA pledges to contribute 1% of its profits to the EMG and help research and support Rooibos' sustainable harvesting.

An award-winning product with a recent Editor’s Choice winner in the 2021 Beauty Shortlist Awards, and a Silver award winner Pure Beauty Awards 2020; the Green Rooibos Pressed Serum   formulated with green rooibos, has long been an ingredient used to relieve dryness, itchiness, and eczema by minimising oxidative stress and increasing cellular healing. This light gel-serum quickly absorbs into the skin, to help protect, hydrate, and soothe, leaving skin supple and revitalised. Other key ingredients are a blend of argan and baobab oil, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, and vitamin E.  There is also our old favourite cannabis sativa (hemp seed oil) which balances the skin and hydrates and regulates the skin's oil production. Gotu kola (Indian pennywort) and marigold extract which have antioxidant properties and promote collagen production. Sea Buckthorn is full of omega 6 and plus vitamin C and E and are anti-inflammatory offering protection against premature signs of ageing. Chlorella vulgaris extract  stimulates collagen production and contains a high level of carotenoids. Liquorice root extract and turmeric both work as an anti-inflammatory and help reduce age spots and hyperpigmentation. These all help to moisturise and strengthen the skin; plus, without fragrance or essential oils and with a pH of 5.0 to 5.3, this serum is ideal to use even on the most sensitive skin. We loved its soft and authentic botanical fragrance and the way this golden semi-transparent serum enhances the complexion with a warm glow. We applied one or two pumps of the serum to the face and neck and found when used alone, it enhanced our skin tone with an almost sun-kissed luminosity. Most importantly it is kind to the skin and skin microbiomes (these are skin flora, made up of trillions of good bacteria which live on the skin). We’re looking forward to when MAYSAMA develops on more products, and would certainly recommend this as another one of our #amazingfinds. You can purchase MAYASAMA's Green Rooibos Pressed Serum in 30ml for £46.00 directly off the MAYSAMA website, here.

Apothem: RECHARGE CBD Cream-Gel

Still in lockdown, topics of wellbeing and health certainly seem to be at the forefront in everyone’s mind. If you’re into taking care of your body and giving it all the TLC that it deserves, then please keep reading on. Today at The Amazing Blog we want to flag up yet another one of our  #amazingfinds. This time it’s with the CBD wellness brand Apothem and its award-winning RECHARGE CBD Cream-Gel, not only for all the CBD lovers but also for those needing a soothing cream for over-worked bodies.

Apothem is co-founded by Tony North and Amelia Barlein and specialises in luxury organic hemp-based CBD drops and topicals. Launched in October 2019, in a male-dominated industry, co-founder Amelia's goal is to empower women in business and build a positive and collaborative culture for those working in the cannabis industry. Apothem is a unisex wellness brand that encourages the positive impacts of CBD while supporting positive mental health through a partnership with suicide prevention charity CALM, which is committed to breaking down common barriers through CBD education. Amelia Baerlein was recently quoted as saying: "We founded Apothem to disrupt the existing CBD market with a contemporary collection of products designed to set new standards in purity, quality and strength. Everything we design and make is created with real people in mind as an addition to their everyday rituals; however, they choose to live life." Apothem is a luxury vegan, cruelty-free, organic brand that only uses cultivated hemp with zero THC. All their CBD products are produced to Good Manufacturing Standards and listed on the EU cosmetics notification portal. Formulas are original and developed in a lab by a diverse team of experts who triple-check the products' potency and purity and put them through rigorous testingAll hemp used is organic and grown in Alicante, Spain, where plants grow outside without the use artificial lighting. Any excess hemp created in production is used to develop packaging, clothing, shoes, and accessories. Apothem is a brand built on honesty and quality, something we look for when buying CBD oil drops, topicals and skincare. They recently scooped up the Best CBD Oil, Best CBD Muscle Balm and five other awards in the Wellbeing Awards with the 2021 Beauty Shortlist; and gained industry recognition as the Best New British Brand award (silver) at the Pure Beauty Awards 2020.

Having seen the launch of Apothem, their RECHARGE CBD Cream-Gel was the one product from the range, that we desperately wanted to try. This is because RECHARGE combines every thing we want in a CBD healing balm, it’s natural with pure Hemp-CBD isolate with magnesium, and botanicals from arnica, green tea, magnesium, and essential oils. Unlike many other CBD body creams/ balms, with overpowering fragrances like lemongrass or eucalyptus, this emits a lovely soft rosemary, juniper and mint scent. It is a truly therapeutic cream-gel, designed to deliver a cooling remedy targeting tension to help re-energise overworked bodies (in my case muscle strain). Easy to apply I found it cooling and effective. For me, it helped alleviate everyday stiffness from my hips and calves. Let’s look at the key ingredient here, arnica reduces aches and swelling; green tea is a fantastic antioxidant and calms redness or skin irritation, and magnesium is a superb support for the immune system. The rosemary and mint essential oils help relieve stress and muscular or joint inflammation. Juniper oil also reduces fatigue, muscle aches and helps relieve pain from arthritis. In clinical trials with RECHARGE over a period of 14 days with 52 participants – it came out with astonishing results as 99% of participants agreed that it helped relieve muscle fatigue, increase joint mobility, relaxed muscle tension and gave greater ease of movement after use. And we couldn’t agree more – this is a very effective anti-inflammatory packed with a potent 800mg CBD in a 100ml tube, and currently one of our favourites.  You can purchase Recharge CBD Cream-Gel in either 25ml for £20 here or 100mml at £55, click here.
