Konjac

The Konjac Sponge Company - Angel Cloth

Here at The Amazing Blog, we’re big fans of cream cleansers. Whether we give our faces a scrub in the shower (guilty as charged) or give our cleansing routine a bit more loving attention, we usually reach for a flannel or muslin cloth to help us along the way. So we were curious when the Original Konjac Angel Cloth from The Konjac Sponge Company landed on our desks, and were excited to see how it compared to our regular cleansing tools.

Looking uncannily like a prawn cracker, we were somewhat bemused by the odd looking cloth. However, when rinsed with water, the cloth relaxes and expands into a soft cleansing square, perfect for use with our favourite products. Rich in minerals and super gentle on the skin, the 100% Natural Vegetable Fibre Face Cloth makes a milder alternative to a muslin cloth, and is extremely kind to the skin. Made from the Japanese Konjac plant, it’s packed with antioxidant properties and, being 100% natural, is more than ideal for sensitive skin. We were surprised by just how soft it was – it’s certainly not what you expect when you see the angel shaped sponge in its packaging.

Turn over a more gentle cleansing leaf with the Original Konjac Angel Cloth. You can buy it here for £11.99.

A sponge who 'loves ya baby’

It constantly amazes me the number of people that I know who really haven’t got a clue how to properly cleanse the daily grime off their faces…extraordinary! After all what on earth is the point of applying some fabulously luxurious moisturiser when you still have a layer of filth on your face. I’ve never been a fan of soap and water (hate having that tight-skin feeling) and have always stuck religiously with cream cleansers, cotton wool and toners; until now. I’m so thrilled to discover the joys of the Konjac.

‘The Konjac?’ I hear you say ‘isn’t he that bald-headed American TV detective from the 70’s?’ No, it is a very smooth cleansing sponge with a rather pleasing dome-like appearance (perhaps a little like Mr Telly Savalas' head).  The Konjac is made from  “Amorphophallus Konjac” which is a perennial plant native to Asia. Konjac potatoes are cultivated for food in Japan & Korea, and for over a century the Japanese have been using the konjac vegetable as a beauty treatment for their delicate skin. The Konjac Sponge  is made from these vegetable fibres and contains a myriad of natural goodies, Protein, carbohydrate, iron, phosphorus, copper, zinc, vitamin A, vitamin E, vitamin D (I could go on….)

I used The Original Konjac which was soft and squidgy but exfoliated my skin gently.  Just wet the sponge with water and off you go…It’s also perfect for cleansing and massaging around the delicate eye area. It really helps to get rid of all the dead skin cells making a slight squeaky noise as you lightly rub away! There’s no tugging, it just moves the skin ever so slightly. However, I must mention that it won’t shift any heavy eye make-up.  The best bit is that you’ll save not only on buying cotton wool and cleansers but you’ll also be helping the environment too. For only £5.50 you get around 3 months continual use out of just one Konjac Sponge. The dome side is softer than the flat side which is very mildly abrasive.  I must also add that it’s brilliant for babies, acne and eczema suffers. Everyone should have a Konjac in their life (that’s Konjac NOT Kojak !) available online from The Konjac Sponge Company or Libertys of London and Harvey Nichols.
