Nelsons Homeopathic Pharmacy : Arnicare® Arnica Cream

We’ve recently spoken about how aromatherapy plays a part in our lives, today at The Amazing Blog, we’re going to talk about homoeopathy. With the warmer weather and lighter evenings, and spending more time outdoors with activities like runs, bike rides, or walking; our bodies have been taking a bit of a bashing with bruising and achy muscles. This is where the homeopathic based Nelsons Arnicare® Arnica Cream comes to the rescue - it’s a staple in our bathroom cabinet and no doubt will soon become one in yours too.

Nelsons Homeopathic Pharmacy is a British company that has been supplying homeopathic medicines since the mid-nineteenth century and is Europe’s oldest homeopathic brand. It’s also the largest manufacturer of homeopathic remedies in the United Kingdom, and all products are manufactured in Wimbledon. Founder Ernest Louis Arbrechy extensively studied homeopathy with German doctor and chemist Samuel Hahnemann (who developed the comprehensive system of homoeopathy that exists today), He came to London and founded Nelsons in 1860, preparing homeopathic medicine in the Hahnemannian tradition making it accessible to all and providing the highest quality of medicine and advice. The company was then succeeded by his son, Ernest Louis Nelson Armbrecht. Homeopathy is based on the Law of Similars, which states that something in large doses produces symptoms, but it alleviates those symptoms in small quantities ‘let like be cured by like'. Homeopathy involves treating the body with natural substances, such as botanicals and minerals where the remedies heal the body by stimulating the body’s biological healing processes. Nelsons products are sold under three main categories: creams, such as topical applications, spray-on forms, or edibles in tinctures and pillules (pills). The Nelsons’ own formulated range includes ready-made remedies that are targeted at specific illnesses or conditions.

Nelsons Arnicare® Arnica Cream is a homeopathic topical herbal treatment that is traditionally used to treat bruises. The product is part of the Nelsons Arnicare range of products, including Nelsons Arnicare Arnica Cooling Gel. All the products included in the range are either topical creams or pillules based on the arnica montana plant, which has been harvested for centuries in the mountain peaks and marshes of Europe and North America. Nelsons sources their arnica from the Scottish highlands. Arnica is a vibrant yellow flower that has been recognised for its natural healing properties since the 16th century. Why we love this Arnicare® Arnica Cream cream is because it always comes to the rescue when rubbed into any bruising or sore areas. It always soothes and heals, with its unscented salve-like texture, and is always easy to apply.

The first ingredient listed for the Nelsons Arnicare® Arnica Cream is the botanical active, arnica montana. A fragrant plant with yellow flowers, it has a long history of being one of the best and most effective homeopathic treatments. Here they detail that 1g of cream contains 9mg of arnica whole plant extract tincture (1:10) equivalent 0.9mg arnica whole plant. The extraction solvent is ethanol 57% v/v. It helps reduce swelling, heal sprains, and takes away the pain from bruising. The cream is water-based, with other ingredients such as apricot kernel oil which is an emollient plant oil with skin-soothing and antioxidant properties, and theobroma oil is an oil extracted from the cocoa bean a rich source of the antioxidant polyphenols.

The other compounds found in the formula are emulsifiers and hydrators to help regulate skin moisture, with glyceryl monostearate, macrogol stearate, glycerol and glyceryl monocaprylate. Polawax GP200 (cetearyl alcohol, PEG-20 stearate), cetostearyl alcohol, cetyl palmitate are also effective emulsifiers and often used to increase the thickness of a product, they also help to soften and soothe the skin. Methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218) and . propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216) are preservatives typically used in many water-based cosmetics, such as creams or lotions.

Have we persuaded you to invest in this little 30g tube on Nelsons Arnicare® Arnica Cream ? If yes, and you’re new to Arnica Cream see here to purchase it for £5.50.

Micheline Arcier : Harmonie Aromatherapie Body Oil

When feeling tired or listless, at The Amazing Blog, it’s always aromatherapy that we turn to first. We believe there is no better way to relax and unwind, than by using the healing powers of botanicals. Did you know that the term ‘aromatherapy’ was first coined by a French perfumer and chemist, René-Maurice Gattefossé, in his book published in 1937? Today we want to talk about one of our favourite ‘go-to’ aromatherapy brands, the award-winning Micheline Arcier and their Harmonie Aromatherapie Body Oil which won Best Body Oil - Relaxing at the 2022 Beauty Shortlist Awards.

Micheline Arcier was one of the first British aromatherapy brands to launch in the UK. As an early advocate of holistic wellbeing, Micheline Arcier developed exclusive products and signature massage techniques. In the early 1960s. She had a highly successful and well-regarded private practice and clinic in Knightsbridge, London. While her practice has since closed, the brand lives on through the Micheline Arcier products. She was trained by Madame Maury, an Austrian biochemist who believed in the use of essential oils to promote wellbeing. Micheline Arcier also worked closely with Dr Jean Valnet, one of the first doctors to use essential oils to treat medical conditions, and when she first opened her Knightsbridge clinic, few people knew what aromatherapy was. Over six decades, the Aromatherapie range has evolved and even offers training to ensure that the official Micheline Arcier practices are carefully maintained. While Micheline Arcier passed away in 2006, Germaine Riche and Catherine Milne have since taken ownership of the brand. Germaine Riche was trained by Micheline Arcier herself and became qualified as an aromatherapist in 1968. Today Germaine also teaches courses on aromatherapy in both the UK and Japan. Catherine Milne works as both an aromatherapist and sports massage practitioner and founded Aromasporttherapy. Today Micheline Arcier Aromatherapie is now under the umbrella of Aromasporttherapy Limited, which is also the parent company of Pepperfit. All essential oils used in Micheline Arcier products are genuine and pure oils sourced from suppliers that support organic production. Products all have naturally sourced ingredients, are vegan friendly and are not tested on animals. These active plant-based essential oils are so powerful that they must be blended with vegetable carrier oils. This gives the oils added benefits by offering vitamins and antioxidants and helps stimulate the production of healthy skin cells, neutralise free radicals that age the skin, and protect the skin against pollutants.

The Harmonie Aromatherapie Body Oil has been created to help promote deep relaxation and a restful night’s sleep, working on both the body and mind. What we love about this oil is that it nourishes the skin, and relieves tension, while offering a wonderful sense of calm with its subtle, yet moreish scent. Incorporating healing essential oils, it’s best used after a bath, while the skin is warm and clean for the oil to absorb fully. The carrier oil is apricot kernel; it’s a nonfragrant oil with skin-soothing and antioxidant properties. It’s combined here with the essential oils of linaloe wood, petitgrain, sage, chamomile flower and ylang-ylang.

Linaloe wood oil is native to Mexico; it’s known for its rejuvenating properties, which stimulate tissue regeneration and help prevent skin ageing. It calms and clears the mind, has been used in perfumes, incense, and oils for centuries, and is also said to be an aphrodisiac! Petitgrain originates from Paraguay and is sourced from the leaves and twigs from the Seville bitter orange tree. It’s a powerful anti-inflammatory soothing and refreshing it’s best known as a tension-relieving oil. The sage oil is reputed to eliminate toxins and ease any muscular or joint pain. Camomile is a gentle yet potent botanical that aids sleep. Finally, the Ylang-yang adds an exotic note to boost mood and alleviate anxiety.

Other ingredients, besides essential oils, are farnesol which is present in many essential oils and is used to emphasise a sweet, floral scent. Linalool is naturally occurring, found in the essential oils, and is floral and spicy terpene alcohol. It’s found in over 200 plants acting as an anti-stress and soothing ingredient. Geraniol, when used topically, is an anti-inflammatory with antibacterial properties to purify and soothe. Eugenol is naturally occurs in botanicals like cloves, basil, and bay leaves and is used as a natural fragrance. Benzyl salicylate, benzyl benzoate, benzyl alcohol citronellol and limonene are all naturally occurring in botanicals and act as a fragrance or preservatives in cosmetic products.

This is another of our #amazingfinds and one that we can’t get enough of to massage into tired limbs. Step up your relaxation by adding this 100ml Harmonie Aromatherapie Body Oil to your night routine. See here to purchase for £40.

ST.. essentials: Eco-Friendly Shimming Body Glitter Gel & Loose Glitter Eyeshadow Pigment

ST Abu.jpg

With Spring almost here, at The Amazing blog we just can’t wait for lighter mornings and longer days.  However, we’re still in need of adding a little sun-kissed shimmer to our dull wintery skin.  And what better way than to use some serious sparkle from a young and inclusive brand ST..essentials

ST..essentials recently launched last year, and is more than just makeup it’s a movement. The brand is founded by Sheena Ellington and Temi Alebiosu, two young women who are both passionate about cosmetics.  They have built this concept around their core brand values with a particular focus on inclusivity, making them a stand out from other traditional cosmetic brands. ST.. essentials wants to spread a message of positivity through their products, regardless of skin tone, sexuality or body size, so that everyone can glow!  Their cosmetics are cruelty-free, vegan and eco-friendly. Wherever possible, products are refillable and ingredients are natural. Their aim is to make their customers feel pretty and confident while also taking care of the planet, “Within the brand, it is very important that everybody who comes in to contact with our brand, feels an instant vibe of positive energy.” This artisan brand offers a range of products that are not only handmade but affordable and easy to use.

They sent us two products, the first was the Eco-Friendly Shimming Body Glitter Gel  in ST. Dhabi Gold. This is a must-have to get THAT glow and a great multi-purpose product that can be used on the face and body. We’d suggest using it as an brow shimmer or as a subtle touch to highlight cheekbones. It’s also perfect to use on the body to that dewy glistening look, and with the added plus of the vanilla oil, it gives out a sweet scent. Our personal favourite was to use it on our shoulders and decolletage to accentuate and catch the light. With the two different shades, it offers a choice of light or rich gold which will complement any skin tone. In the ingredients there is aloe vera which well known for its multiple benefits such as cooling and soothing; the macadamia nut oil here is filled with antioxidants, vitamins and essentials fatty acids, to nourish the skin as well as make it shine. The only ingredient here that we aren’t so keen on is the phenoxyethanol which depending on the amount in this product, may cause some skin irritation or sensitivity. The Shimming Body Glitter Gel works so well thanks to the eco-friendly tiny mica /titanium dioxide particles which gives the product its twinkle. this is, a natural ingredient that reflects ST..essentials' commitment to the environment. ST. Dhabi Gold here for £23.99, or as a refill at £10.99.

The brand also sent us their Eco-friendly Loose Glitter Eyeshadow Pigment in Silver Coast Once again, we loved the versatility of this product as it can be used on the face, body, hair or nails (under clear polish). Indeed, not only perfect for an ultra-reflective eye look but also perfect for adding a body highlight - we even used it with a stencil to create some body art. We recommend applying a small amount of a plant-based balm either with a brush or your fingers. This can be anywhere on your body, face, hair. Then sprinkle some Loose Glitter on it and you’re good to go. Please use with caution, when applying around your eye area due to the fine particles which might fall into the eye. It’s easy to remove and washes off with warm water and soap, or by using regular makeup remover. You’ll love experimenting with this Silver Coast Eco-Friendly Loose Glitter as well as their other six colours in the range, perfect for creating your own super-glam looks for getting ready for après-lockdown and the summer festivals (fingers crossed!). We feel it's important to highlight once again, that the pigments used here in both products are made using the finest of earth's natural ingredients, natural mica, a soft silicate mineral that can be found in many forms. You can purchase the Eco-friendly Loose Glitter Eyeshadow Pigment (in silver Coast) in 5g here for £7.00.  These cosmetics will make you glitter like a goddess - even during lockdown!

Manicure You London - Nail Polishes

Manicure you.jpg

We can never get enough of manicured nails, here at The Amazing Blog whether it’s to coordinate with our latest outfit or to pack into our travel bags for holidays. With Christmas fast approaching we couldn’t resist adding a trio of new sparkly colours from Manicure You to our collection.

Like many of us, Nicola Soremekun, the founder of Manicure You had damaged nails after years nail-biting and acrylics. Finally, she decided that it was time take care of her natural nails which took her on a nail journey creating an Instagram page ‘Nikki & Nails’ where she photographed and detailed her manicures, nail growth and colours of the week.  As a nail polish convert, she decided to launch her own brand in 2018 with a range of luxury nail products offered at affordable prices. Also, a black-owned business, being inclusive for all skin tones was a must for her, Nicola said: “I wanted to create a product that is inclusive of all skin tones, toxin-free and would allow my nails to breathe, be nurtured and grow whilst still rocking the latest shades.” All the Manicure You nail polishes are free from ingredients such as toluene, dibutyl phthalate, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, camphor, ethyl tosylamide, and xylene. For those of you new to nail lacquer formulations, here is why they are not included in the Manicure You formulations: Toluene is a neurotoxin that can cause neurological damage when inhaled. Although Dibutyl Phthalate helps improve nail durability but it is also associated with damage to the liver and kidneys. Formaldehyde and it’s by-product Formaldehyde Resin can cause allergic reactions, asthma, nausea, and dermatitis. Camphor can also trigger allergic reactions, headaches and nausea. Low doses of Xylene can cause headaches, and high doses can affect the respiratory system. Ethyl Tosylamide is banned in Europe due to it causing mild to severe allergic reactions; it also can disrupt hormones. With cuticle oil, top and base coat, as well as an array of over 23 vibrant colours in the range, there is something for everyone here. This collection of chic and environmentally friendly products, give results with a long-lasting gel-like finish, without the use of a UV lamp or soaking your nails in toxic acetone.

Adding some twinkle to fingers and toes, and creating fun nail art always gets us in the celebratory mood. This is where the Christmas trio of shimmer shades from Manicure You with MoonlightRuby Queen and Trophy complement, adding some serious festive pizzazz to our home manicure. Best of all, we found that the recommended application of two thin coats gives a gloop-free and long-lasting colour. Ruby Queen is a ‘lipstick red’ with the tiniest flecks of gold which glistens in the light, we think this shade is great for a girly night out or for the on-trend fashionistas. Whereas Trophy is the perfect in-between metallic shade of silver/gold making it the most versatile colour of the trio to rock for Christmas parties. Moonlight is a midnight blue giving a prism effect with light-reflecting rich cobalt shades, all of which add a little drama - this was our favourite shade from the trio. You can use these colours alone, or there are numerous nail art designs you can create. We suggest starting with Trophy as the base followed by a line of Ruby Queen and Midnight on the tips, like a reverse French. Or perhaps having Ruby Queen as the base and then taking Trophy to paint diagonal lines creating a candy cane effect. However, if you’re nail art novices, like us, then go for a more straightforward look by painting eight fingers in Midnight and both ring fingers in Trophy to give a festive accent. Why not follow this by painting all toes in the glorious Ruby Queen, the perfect colour for getting your feet party-ready. You can purchase all the Manicure You nail polishes here for £8.50 each.

The Flat Lay Co: Leopard Print Full Size Flat Lay Makeup Bag

flatlay.jpg

Finding a perfect present for one person can be challenging, but when it comes to Christmas with lots of friends and family, now we’re having a complete meltdown! Here at The Amazing Blog when we ask our makeup-loving friends what they want, they just say: “Oh we’ll leave it up to you…” But then there’s always the question of: “Is it the right brand and colour?” However, the problem‘s solved this year with our latest #amazingfinds and The Flat Lay Co with their Flat Lay Makeup Bags.

After spending time getting her bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, the founder Izzy Howe realised that it wasn’t the right career for her and promptly switched to business for her postgraduate education. After working in multiple tech companies, she decided to change her focus and 2017 The Flat Lay Co was born. Based in Shoreditch, Howe’s goal has been to create a product which offers a time-saving solution for an everyday problem. She noticed a gap in the market for a drawstring flat lay make up bag. This is a cosmetics bag that opens flat, offering the user to view all their makeup at once, with no more scrabbling around to find that all-important lip gloss at the bottom!  This ingenious drawstring flat lay makeup bag is the brand’s signature product and comes in a variety of colours and designs. Apart from the drawstring open flat makeup bags, they also have Brush Cases, Box Bags, Oversized Eye Masks and Scrunchies, so something to suit every budget.

The Leopard Print Flat Lay Makeup Bag has been a joy to use, as it’s both practical and stylish and comes in two sizes 50cm at £19.99 (that we have) or in a ‘Mini’ in 33cm at £17.99. Best of all, there is a range of fourteen different colourways to choose from, as well as three pale coloured soft velvet bags that coordinate with the Box Cases and Brush Bags. This leopard print was the one that caught our eye, and in a matter of seconds, we could open the flat lay makeup bag and find exactly the product we wanted, rather than rummaging around for ages.  The outer shell is made of a thick material which protects products from breakage, where there’s also a raised edge to stop anything from rolling away. Let’s not forget to mention the inside and outside pockets too, which hold loose products that might get lost, plus four elastic holders designed for brushes. What more do you need? We love these and think the ‘Mini’ is ideal for everyday use in our handbag, whereas the ‘Full size’ also makes an excellent travel companion. More importantly, we think this is an absolute must-have present for every makeup lover.  You can purchase any of The Flat Lay Co Makeup Bags here and by using our exclusive code THEAMAZINGBLOG15, you can receive 15% off your purchase.
