EARTH from Earth: Damask Rose Skin Balm

It is no secret that here at The Amazing Blog, we value natural skincare products above all else. After all beauty trends come and go, but our skin is here for life, and so it’s imperative to take care of it. As always, we’re on the hunt for new and exciting products, and today’s latest discovery is from EARTH from Earth, with their Damask Rose Skin Balm.

EARTH from Earth is a wellness brand that focuses on natural and organic skincare, haircare and grooming products. Founded by Kehinde Ogunba, a graduate of Formula Botanics, who saw that there was a “gap in approachable and effective self-care products that are made with the right combination of herbs and unconventional superior plant oils and butter.” Ogunba works closely with Minomi Adejumo, who is the formulator and brand alchemist for EARTH from Earth. Adejumo is a qualified pharmacist and medical herbalist with expansive knowledge of both African and Western healing traditions. Adejumo has “a strong appreciation and experience in harnessing the therapeutic properties of numerous herbs and plant oils.” EARTH is a acronym for Essences Aromas Relaxation Therapy Healing. These ideas are what the brand aims to offer for the modern woman, man and family; since their products are formulated to “nourish, uplift, calm and balance mind, body and soul.” EARTH from Earth describes their range of products as “indulgent, potent, aromatic and nutrient-dense” with all-natural, organic plant oils and herbs that are chosen specifically for their “therapeutic abilities and extraordinary efficacy.” Every product is made in the UK and handcrafted to nourish, condition, moisturise, rejuvenate, restore, uplift and balance. The fragrances only come from the raw aroma of the natural ingredients combined with the “delicate blend of aromatherapy oils to evoke a deep sense of sensory awakening.” Most of their products are plastic-free in brown amber glass containers and housed in a biodegradable paper tubes, with earthy jute sacs to keep them safe. They made with 100% ethically-sourced herbs, plant oils and butters which are vegan and cruelty free.

EARTH from Earth’s Damask Rose Skin Balm contains a unique blend of antioxidants and vitamin-rich superior butters, plant oils and herbs. We love that the natural and organic ingredients create their own natural and raw aroma. This skin balm feels and smells luxurious. It is specifically formulated to provide deep nourishment, hydration and replenishment. This balm is laced with one of our favourite ingredients the rosa damescena, “carefully hand-picked early in the morning before they can open and release their precious scent, soothing and sensual as it infuses the skin with enriching nutrients.” The herbal extracts are produced in-house to ensure the essence of every herb is fully released into the oils. To use this soothing skin balm, scoop a small portion into your hands to warm it up and take a moment to inhale the natural aromas, then proceed to apply the balm all over your skin.  The key herbal ingredients here are wild geranium, broadleaf plantain, gotu kola, nettle, calendula, licorice root, field horsetail, marshmallow, chickweed. Together they are blended with oils from coconut, grapeseed, castor, avocado, jojoba, olive and African oil palm. There is candelilla wax, murumuru and cacao butters to give the Balm its consistency. The fragrance is subtle combination of the essential oils, with rosa damescena, patchouli and geranium. In short, this is a beautiful and delicately scented Balm which is free from water, alcohol, chemical preservatives, stabilisers and additives. We used it on face and body, concentrating on elbows, knees and lips. Dr.K CBD: Nano Emulsified Joint Relief Balm

Do your muscles or joints ache? The hemp plants that the brand use are grown organically without herbicides or pesticides.  As we mentioned previously with the brand, what sets them apart is the nanotechnology in their topicals. They claim that their Nano Emulsions are 5 x times more effective than similar creams due to the particles being much smaller and thus absorbing more easily. This turns active cannabinoids into nano-sized droplets; which causes high bioavailability of the CBD in the balm or cream. The brand is keen to flag up that this technology, as it allows the users to get more out of their products. Dr K CBD has oils, face and hand cream, rubs and balms that use CBD to help with sleep, pain, stress, anxiety and wellbeing. To ensure they are of the highest standard and consistency, the company’s CBD products undergo rigorous cannabinoid lab testing. The brand motto says, “Your choice, your body. CBD, done the right way!” 

The product we tried is the Nano Emulsified Joint Relief Balm, 60ml jar which contains 300 mg of broad-spectrum CBD. Among its other benefits, when topically applied, CBD is good for muscle health. It helps anti-inflammatory issues and relieves muscle tension, and some say that it can even help MS-induced muscle spasticity. We use CBD balms as pain relief (soreness from arthritis and overdoing it in the gym) and for headaches or migraines relief (an occurrence from too much blue light/screen time). We’ve been using CBD topicals for pain relief and nerve inflammatory issues for quite a while now. As we find in its topical form, the phytocompounds and compounds such as terpenes and flavonoids, are strong enough to provide almost instant relief when massaged into the area of pain. The CBD works in tandem with the endocannabinoid system (see here for a simple explanation) where it springs into action when it senses that the body is out of kilter and promptly stimulates a hormonal release, thus reducing the pain or inflammation.

Unlike other CBD Balms, that we have used, this has little or no scent (which we prefer). We tried the 3in1 Shampoo Bar Trio set, which are three different cleansing bars. Each is a multipurpose cleansing bar that can be used on hair, face and body. They are all vegan, cruelty-free, paraben-free, palm-oil-free, SLS/SLES free and plastic-free. Plus, these bars can last up to five times longer compared to regular shampoo or shower gel. The three main ingredients used in each bar are shea butter, almond and jojoba oil. Shea butter is a good moisturiser, and with its high level of fatty acids, it regulates skin sebum. It contains vitamins A and E for strong antioxidant action on both skin and hair. Almond and jojoba oil combined, are also powerful moisturisers, efficient emollients, which balance the absorption of moisture, stimulate collagen and are enriched with vitamin E. We found all three of these cleansing bars highly nourishing, they kept our skin hydrated and helped to reduce any scalp irritation or dryness.  

The Sea Minerals bar is for all hair and skin types. The added ingredient here is Dead Sea salt which contains several minerals like potassium, calcium, magnesium, sodium and sulphur. These exfoliate the dead skin cells to leave skin smooth, hydrated and purified. It also has the added benefit for hair by preventing hair loss and dandruff - this is excellent for the scalp and hair in particular. The Coconut + Argan  is recommended for dry skin, damaged or coloured hair.  This contains coconut oil with the previously mentioned benefits and Argan oil. The Argan oil here has moisturising, nourishing, cleansing and conditioning, properties with vitamin A and E, antioxidants, omega-6 fatty acids and linoleic acid.  This was our favourite of the trio – we found it gentle and efficient for removing makeup, and left our skin feeling super-hydrated too. When used as a shampoo it cleansed the hair leaving us with little or no need for a conditioner. The Tea Tree + Lime + Mint  is more for oily or combination skin and greasy hair. The Tea Tree leaf oil, is known for its cleansing and antiseptic properties, helps to eliminate dandruff. This oil is good for oily skin, and of course, thanks to the terpenes, it deeply cleanses. Lime oil is also present here and thanks to the limonene it contains, the antioxidant effect boosts skin health to make it look brighter. This lime oil also helps to fight against dandruff, and adds a glossy sheen to the hair. The spearmint leaf oil, provides a fresh scent to this cleansing bar and is also a natural antibacterial and anti-fungal. In this new world of lunchtime walks, jogging or running for our daily 10k steps - we’ve heard lots of moans and groans of newfound soreness from skin rubbing or blisters. So, when we at The Amazing Blog  heard about Skirr Skin with their Anti-Chafing Stick Sports Body Balm – we had to give it a try – after all, prevention is better than cure!

The ingredients are unique and critical here. Coconut oil contains nourishing fatty acids that help hydrate and protect the skin. Jojoba seed oil is a crucial ingredient proven to combat acne, dry skin, and other skin conditions such as chafing. Beeswax creates a protective layer on the skin. It also removes dead skin and keeps the skin soft and hydrated. Sunflower oil is a highly absorbent non-irritant that helps combat dry chafing skin. Our tester is new to exercise, with both running and cycling, and complained bitterly about the soreness on the inside of his thighs.
